Silver Comet 2022 Recruiting Kickoff Presentation

Posted on Jul 29 2022 - 11:22am

We had a great recruiting kickoff this Tuesday July 26th, and we'd like to give all of the units that joined us a great big THANK YOU!
Some pictures of our event are here:pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 pic 4

For those of you that couldn't join us, the presentation given is available for Download at this link. Please take a few moments to review it, and share the information with your unit leaders.

Randy Farmer also shared some great ideas for activities for signup nights, parent orientations, or really any time. If you'd like instructions on how to make stomp rockets, lava lamps, or pool noodle regatta boats, send him an email at randy.farmer@gmail.com, and he'd be happy to pass them along.

The DE's are hard at work finishing up the schedule of all School Nights, and will be in touch with your recruiting contact soon.

Den Leader Bags: Council has them, and we want to get them into the hands of your leaders. If you couldn't attend the kickoff, but would like a den leader bag(s), please reply to this email and let me know how many you'd like. We'll do our best to get them to you as soon as possible.

As we kick off this crazy season of recruiting, we wish your unit the best of luck. Recruit, retain, and most importantly, have fun!

Transitioning to Mailchimp for the Weekly District Email Blast

Posted on May 7 2022 - 10:56pm

This will be the last EBlast generated by our District website software. Moving forward, we are transitioning to a District email blast generated by MailChimp that will be sent weekly on Sunday mornings. This new format will allow us to expand the amount of information provided by our District Committee, as well as increase our reach to all currently registered District Scouters.

The first MailChimp email will be sent today, Sunday May 8th. If you do not receive the MailChimp email (please check your spam folder), or if you would like it sent to a different email address, please contact our District Chair, Sharla Stewart at districtchair@silvercometdistrictbsa.org

If you prefer not to receive the MailChimp District email blast you may unsubscribe from the blast by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the blast.

We hope the weekly MailChimp email blast will improve and expand District communication and provide you with useful tools and resources as you plan a great program for your Scouts.

Thank you for all you do for your Scouts and Scouting Families,

The Silver Comet District Committee

Rangemaster Training May 21st, 2022

Posted on Apr 30 2022 - 12:20pm

Silver Comet Scouters, did you know that YOU can get trained to run Cub Scout BB Gun and Archery Ranges at Council and District events? That’s right! No prior experience is needed, the Atlanta Area Council’s experienced instructors will teach you everything you need to know at their upcoming Cub Scout Rangemaster Training, being held at the Volunteer Service Center on Saturday, May 21st from 9 am to 4 pm.

This is a required training for anyone who wishes to volunteer as a Rangemaster. The Cub Scout Shooting Certification is valid for two years. Archery and BB gun shooting are restricted to District Day Camps, Cub Scout/Webelos Scout Resident Camps, Council-Managed Family Camping Programs, or to Council activities where there are properly trained supervisors and all standards for BSA shooting sports are enforced. Archery and BB gun shooting are not to be done at the pack level.

Shooting Sports are a major highlight of the Cub Scout “experience” and helping them learn a new skill is very gratifying. We hope you will consider getting trained so you can run ranges safely and effectively.

Participants should bring a bag lunch and refillable water bottle.
