Turkey Shoot Needs Rangemasters

Posted on Sep 14 2019 - 11:15pm

Attention all Cub Leaders and Adult Partners!

As our annual Turkey Shoot event approaches we are again in need of Rangemasters to help us provide enough shooting sports ranges for the hundreds of Cubs we expect to enjoy the day. We are calling on you – the certified Rangemaster – to help with this year’s event. Those who volunteer for the day will get to choose a preferred shooting time for their Pack – first come first served. Those who are able to volunteer even during their Pack’s range time will get preferential treatment…so reply now with your name and time you would like! Click on "read more" for how to sign up or register for Rangemaster training!

Scouting for Food 2019 - Stuff the Turkey

Posted on Sep 14 2019 - 11:13pm

Scouting for Food has been an annual BSA project for over 40 years. Although various changes have occurred, it is still viewed as a great opportunity to demonstrate scout service. Once again, Silver Comet District is partnering with The Center for Family Resources (CFR) and their Thanks-4-Giving Campaign. CFR is a Cobb County based organization, therefore we as a district are helping our neighbors in the Cobb County community. Our District commitment to the campaign focuses on one item – STUFFING!! - and our goal is 1,000 boxes! Read on to see how your unit can participate this fall.

Volunteer Request for City of Acworth's Mother-Son Campout on September 14th

Posted on Sep 7 2019 - 9:40pm

BSA volunteers continue to help the City of Acworth Parks & Recreation with their annual Mother-Son Campout and we need your help.

Cubs and Scouts are welcome to come to Proctor Landing on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11:00am to help non-Scouts set up tents and staff games and activities. Come for as long as you can stay and eat for free! "Class B" attire is fine for this event. We plan to have orienteering, fishing, air rockets, cooking, and crafting para-cord bracelets and t-shirt bags. Contact Jeff Starnes at jlstarnes@bellsouth.net if you can help.

Nominations for the 2020 Silver Comet District Committee and District Annual Business Meeting

Posted on Sep 7 2019 - 10:05am

The District Nominating Committee is responsible for identifying candidates qualified and willing to serve as District Chairman, District Commissioner, and District Vice Chairman.
The Committee also identifies Scouters qualified and willing to serve as District Members-at-Large who will contribute to the many aspects of District Scouting including Membership, Funds Development, and all of the Program areas and Operating Committees.
It takes dedicated leadership to provide the excellent Scouting programs that are offered to our youth, and Silver Comet has many motivated and capable volunteers that would make ideal candidates to serve the District but we may not know who they are. Anyone may submit nominations so please help us by submitting the names of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers for consideration.

Nominations will be accepted through October 18, 2019.

Election of District Officers and Members at Large takes place at the District Annual Business Meeting.

The Annual Business Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 7 th, 2019, 7 pm, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 4341 Dallas Highway SW, Marietta, GA. 30064

Eligible Voters are all Silver Comet Registered Charter Organization Representatives, Silver Comet District Members at Large, and any registered Council Members at Large residing within the Silver Comet District.

For details on submitting nominations, selection of individuals to fill the District positions, and the election of District Officers and Members go to our Silver Comet Nominating Committee webpage.
