Samantha Schuster Retiring as District Training Chair

Posted on Jun 8 2019 - 10:38pm

Samantha Schuster is stepping down as our District Training Chair after several years of leading a dedicated training committee. As many of you know, Samantha wears several important hats in both our district and at the council level. At the council level, Samantha is a dedicated staff member of NYLT, the University of Scouting, and the College of Commissioner Science. In addition to her responsibilities as Training Chair, Samantha also found time to be a Silver Comet Unit Commissioner. In February of this year, Samantha stepped into a new scouting role when she became Scoutmaster to a new girl troop at Kennesaw United Methodist Church.

Under Samantha's leadership, our district earned the distinction of having the highest percentage of trained leaders in the council! Lucky for us, Samantha will continue to be a valuable contributing member of the Silver Comet Training team, albeit in a smaller role. Thank you Samantha for your hard work and dedication to scouts and scouters in Silver Comet and the Atlanta Area Council!

Scouting for Food 2019 - Stuff the Turkey

Posted on Sep 14 2019 - 11:13pm

Scouting for Food has been an annual BSA project for over 40 years. Although various changes have occurred, it is still viewed as a great opportunity to demonstrate scout service. Once again, Silver Comet District is partnering with The Center for Family Resources (CFR) and their Thanks-4-Giving Campaign. CFR is a Cobb County based organization, therefore we as a district are helping our neighbors in the Cobb County community. Our District commitment to the campaign focuses on one item – STUFFING!! - and our goal is 1,000 boxes! Read on to see how your unit can participate this fall.

Silver Comet 2018 Scouting for Food – “STUFF THE TURKEY”

Posted on Sep 14 2018 - 8:36pm

The Silver Comet District annual Scouting for Food program is in conjunction with the annual The Center for Family Resources’ Thanks-for-Giving project. Stuffing is our focal food item.
The collection begins Saturday, November 3. There will be a collection point at Jim Miller Park during the Turkey Shoot. The final collection will be at the November Roundtable Meeting on November 8.

Any non- perishable food items are welcome, but “Stuffing” is our focal food item.

The Pack AND the Troop which raise the most boxes or packages of “Stuffing” will be recognized at our annual banquet with an appropriate prize. It is not too late to plan your individual unit’s “Stuffing” food drive. Good luck and help feed Cobb County families this Thanksgiving.
