Silver Comet District Welcomes New DE, JoAnna Zackery

The Atlanta Area Council is pleased to announce that JoAnna Zackery will be joining the Atlanta Area Council staff, effective June 3, 2019, as District Executive serving the Silver Comet District. JoAnna will be responsible for providing leadership in the areas of service to Silver Comet Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops and Venturing Crews. Her responsibilities include support for our youth recruiting efforts and fundraising including Friends of Scouting, the Trail’s End Popcorn Sale and the Camp Card sale under the direction of Jon Ingram, Service Area 3 Field Director.

JoAnna graduated from Goodwin College in East Hartford, Connecticut with a degree in Organizational Studies/Human Services. She was the Director of Membership and Recruitment/Training Services at the Girl Scouts of Connecticut for three years. She also worked at the Connecticut Rivers Council Boy Scouts of America as an Executive Learning for Life/Exploring Program Coordinator for six years. JoAnna is a native of Hartford, Connecticut. She moved to the Atlanta area in 2014 where her three sisters reside, including her twin. JoAnna has a son who is currently attending Georgia State University. In her free time, she enjoys music, archery, and reading.

The Silver Comet District welcomes JoAnna, and we look forward to working with her and our dedicated Hubert Snow to bring great Scouting to the youth and families of our District!

Silver Comet District Welcomes New District Executive Hubert Snow

The Atlanta Area Council is pleased to announce that Hubert Snow has been promoted to the position of District Executive serving the Silver Comet District effective March 1, 2018. Hubert will be responsible for providing leadership in the areas of service to Silver Comet Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Venturing Crews, in addition to providing support for youth recruiting efforts and fundraising including Friends of Scouting, The Trail’s End Popcorn Sale and the Camp Card sale under the direction of Field Director, Lew Sisson.

Hubert joined the Atlanta Area Council in June 2017 as District Executive serving the Exploring Program working in partnership with businesses, organizations and government agencies to provide youth with opportunities for real-world, hands-on career experiences.

Hubert is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. An Eagle Scout, Hubert served as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 312 in Cahaba Heights, Alabama.

The Silver Comet District welcomes Hubert, and we look forward to working with him as he joins our tireless Drew Doherty to bring great Scouting to the Youth and families of our District.

Silver Comet District Welcomes New District Executive Lindsay McVicar

The Atlanta Area Council is pleased to announce that Lindsay McVicar will be joining their staff effective July 17, 2018, as District Executive serving the Silver Comet District. Lindsay will be responsible for providing leadership in the areas of service to Silver Comet Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Venturing Crews. Her responsibilities include support for our youth recruiting efforts and fundraising including Friends of Scouting, the Trail’s End Popcorn sale and the Camp Card sale. One of her primary roles will be to lead the cultivation and recruitment of volunteers in the Silver Comet District. Lindsay is part of the Service Area 4 team under the leadership of Lew Sisson, Field Director.

Lindsay is originally from Cherokee County and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, where she studied History and Archaeology. She is a yoga instructor and avid outdoorswoman who has hiked over 900 miles of the Appalachian Trail. She has three uncles who are Eagle Scouts and Philmont veterans.

Silver Comet Fall Indoor Leader Training is Saturday October 20th 2018

Silver Comet District Fall Indoor Leader training is Saturday, October 20th, at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church. Training is offered for all Cub Scout Den Leader, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster, and Den Chief positions.

Training opportunities for Cubmasters, Asst. Cubmasters, and Pack Committee Members can be found throughout the Council on the current AAC Training Schedule.

Silver Comet has a new DE - Please Welcome Claude Gatlin, Jr.!

Please welcome Claude Gatlin, Jr. to our Silver Comet family! Claude was most recently the executive for Exploring in the Atlanta Area Council. Now that Exploring will be folded into the districts, Claude has joined us as a District Executive.

Claude is a native of Mississippi where he attended Jackson State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Administration. He has over fifteen years of experience working with nonprofits and youth mentoring programs. Claude enjoys family time with his wife, Tiffini, and four children Jayden, McKenzie, Malikai, and Zoë. They can often be found taking long bike rides on the Atlanta Beltline or Silver Comet while enjoying the community.

Here's a personal note from Claude to all our volunteers: "I am eager to be working with the unit leaders and families of Silver Comet. I hope to meet each of you soon as we work together to keep Scouting thriving and strong."
