2020 Silver Comet District Conductor Award Nominations

Posted on Feb 7 2021 - 1:23am

The Silver Comet District Conductor Award is for any adult in your unit that you feel deserves recognition for service to scouting that goes “above and beyond”. They might be the Assistant Leader that is always there when help is needed, the Committee Member that somehow keeps the accounts straight, or maybe that parent that keeps everything organized and moving forward. They do not have to be a registered Scouter to be nominated for this award.

Nominations should be submitted on the Silver Comet Conductor Award nomination form by March 13th, 2021 to our Conductor Award Coordinator, Clint Pope, at: conductor@silvercometdistrictbsa.org.

Or mail to: Clint Pope, 2856 Summit Ridge Dr., Marietta, GA 30066.

One nomination per 25 registered youth in your Unit.

(1-25 registered Youth=1 nomination, 26-50=2 nominations, 51-75=3 nominations, etc.)

The list of previous honorees is available here at the bottom of the page.

AAC Around the Campfire with Dr. Randy Rizor

Posted on Apr 3 2021 - 11:40pm

The Atlanta Area Council has a special, virtual campfire planned for Wednesday, May 12th, at 8pm. Join Dr. Randy Rizor for an inspirational message for all Scouting volunteers, but especially for our unit leaders: Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Advisors, and Skippers. To register, click on the "register here" link at the bottom of this page: https://www.atlantabsa.org/rizorcampfire.

Here's the invitation from Dr. Rizor:

Cubmasters and Scoutmasters,

I have a story to share with you. It begins around a campfire - on a little island in a harbor in England - over 100 years ago. Its chapters are still being written, and you are one of the authors. Its message remains powerful. I do not know when it will end, and yet I know what the final chapter will say!

The Atlanta Area Council has a special campfire planned on May 12 at 8:00 pm. I hope you can join me around the fire via zoom so that I can tell you more of the story and thank you for the important role you play in it. If you cannot join me, please extend the invitation to another leader in your unit that can.

Best regards,

Dr. Randy Rizor

Acworth Mother/Son Campout was a Great Success!

Posted on Sep 22 2019 - 12:44am

Last weekend a dedicated group of Silver Comet Scouts and Scouters helped over 80 mothers and their sons set up camp sites and engage in fun outdoor activities at the City of Acworth Annual Mother/Son Campout. What a wonderful, community-focused way to show Scout service and spirit! Thank you to the Scouts and parents of Troop 116: Alex Coogler, Noah Coogler (Second Class Scout), Lauren Schwartz, Luke Schwartz (Tenderfoot Scout), Susan Rodgers, and John Rodgers (Tenderfoot Scout); and the Eagle Scouts and Leaders of Troop 350: Conner Kautz, Evan Kautz, Andrew Helbling, and Gary Roberts. Thank you to Steve Helbling and Jeff Starnes for organizing the district's annual support of this community event. Thank you also to Chris Skibbie, a member of the community who overheard Scout Leaders discussing the event and came out to volunteer.
