District Update

Posted on Apr 12 2020 - 1:12am

Just a quick reminder about the two pages on our district website where you can find information about changes to district and council programs:

First, our COVID-19 Update page. This is where you can find information about specific events and general information about the district's and council's response to COVID-19. https://www.silvercometdistrictbsa.org/node/1933. This page is updated as new information becomes available.

Second, our How to Scout at Home page. This is where you can find links to activities to encourage your Scouts while they are staying at home. This page is updated as we receive new resources. https://www.silvercometdistrictbsa.org/node/1938

Stay safe!

District Virtual Pinewood Derby Results

Posted on May 22 2021 - 11:28pm

Silver Comet held their first Virtual Pinewood Derby at Burnt Hickory Baptist Church on Saturday, May 22nd. Twenty Cub Scouts representing six packs competed in a district-wide Grand Prix and in den-specific races. Our dedicated team of volunteers had a blast checking in cars, testing mics and cameras, running race software and heats, and calling the live play-by-play! Thank you to Burnt Hickory Baptist Church, home of Pack 353 and Troop 353, for hosting this virtual event. Special thanks to Ryan Bass, Scott Nowak, and Chip Phillips for technical support, Vicky and Abigail Baldridge for race logistics, and Shawn Colloton and John Lyon for live play-by-play and race analysis. Thank you also to our Program Chair, Sharla Stewart for running race registration and coordinating the event.

Our District Winners were: 1st - Logan L., an AOL from Pack 217, with Silver Surfer; 2nd - Andrew K., an AOL from Pack 353, with Salty Lightning; and 3rd - Eric T., a Wolf from Pack 353 with Fire Fang.

Congratulations to all our participants! District volunteers will reach out to the families to return the cars and to present the Cubs with certificates and hardware for our District Winners and first-place winners in each den.

Drew Doherty is leaving the Atlanta Area Council to pursue his career

Posted on Jun 30 2018 - 11:16am

Our hard working, multi-talented District Executive Drew Doherty is moving on from the Atlanta Area Council to pursue his career, and we wish him every success in his future endeavors.
In his nearly 3 years here in Silver Comet Drew made many friends and met just about all of our Scouters as he worked to make the District a great place for Scouts and Families to get the most out of the Scouting Program.

Drew, from all of us, Thank You for your support, dedication, and enthusiasm for Silver Comet Scouting.

Drew sends the following note to all:

Over the past three years, I’ve been blessed to work with some of the most incredible, generous and caring people I’ve ever met. I want to thank each and every one of you for all that you’ve given me even beyond Scouting. Your friendship, guidance and so many kind words will continue to stay with me as I continue to grow and pursue a new career.

Thank you. Y’all are truly awesome!
-Drew Doherty
