Destination Spotlight: Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History

All aboard for an adventure through history! Located in nearby Kennesaw, the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History offers Scouts and families a unique opportunity to explore the role railroads played in shaping our nation. From historic locomotives and interactive exhibits to the famous General locomotive, the museum brings history, engineering, and innovation to life.

For Scouts, it's more than just a museum visit—it's a chance to connect with American history, discover the science and technology behind rail transportation, and spark curiosity about engineering, industry, and preservation. The museum also hosts family-friendly events and educational programs throughout the year, making it a great destination for den outings, troop activities, or a weekend family adventure.

Whether you're working on a merit badge, looking for a fun educational outing, or simply love trains, the Southern Museum is a destination worth exploring.

Get Out and Explore!

One of the greatest strengths of Scouting is being an active part of the community. Every event you attend, every service project you complete, and every new place you explore is an opportunity to build friendships, strengthen community connections, and share the spirit of Scouting with others.

Know about an upcoming community event or destination we should feature? We'd love to hear from you! Email community@silvercometdistrictbsa.org. Together, we can help more families discover everything the Silver Comet community has to offer—and inspire the next generation of Scouts to join the adventure.
